TOAKS Titanium Long Handle Spoon

Let’s talk about some camp gear! Specifically the TOAKS Titanium Long Handle Spoon with Polished Bowl. I know, I know some people are going to be right at the point of a spork. That or you’re going to want to bring up the idea of a spoon on one end and a for on the other end type of tool. Ok, I concede that there are a lot of options for eating utensils while camping, backpacking, hiking, and just outdoor life in general.

Let’s consider a couple of data points about the TOAKS Titanium Spoon:

  • Material: Titanium
  • Weight: 0.65 oz (19g)
  • Length: 8 1/2″ (215mm)
  • It comes with an orange nylon bag.

If the orange nylon bag didn’t just convince you then there’s no hope! Ok, ok. Really the thing about this spoon is that its crazy light-weight, crazy strong, and the handle is long enough to get to the bottom of the cook-cup or food pouch without requiring you to ask someone else to help feed you! Oh yeah and that bag. Just look at that sexy nylon bag in bright orange!

Let’s get the obvious stuff out of the way. The spoon is made of titanium so it’s super light and super strong. You can even use the handle end as a flathead screwdriver if you ever have a need for that. The bowl of the spoon is polished so it’s smooth on your lips, tongue, and teeth. If you think this doesn’t matter or won’t matter to you that’s cool, but it’s weird to me to feel the texture of a blast finished utensil on my lips and teeth. That’s just me, so take it for what it’s worth.

Other interesting points of note are that the edge on the spoon doesn’t have a sharp enough angle to throw sparks off a ferro rod, but that’s not really a requirement of a spoon. Still would have been cool if it worked! I’ll grant you that you could grind an area to allow for this use it’s not really something that I have a desire to do.

The long handle is really helpful and something that I highly recommend. There are so many times where you just need a little extra handle to stir a pot or to get to the corner of a bag of food. This could really remove the need to take an extra stir spoon with you while camping, backpacking, or hiking. Now, if you are camping in an area where you can just park your car or RV and get out to setup camp then I’ll grant you that you might be more inclinded to carry a full camping kitchen set. However, if you are backpacking or doing some ultralight camping then you want to minimize as much as possible.

That’s really the beauty of this spoon. This thing is big enough to act as a great cooking tool, but not so awkward that you can’t use it as a basic spoon. Coming in around $12 makes for a pricy spoon, but I think it’s worth it considering the weight, strength, and the long handle.
