I believe in being as prepared as possible while not going overboard with buying gear. At least that’s what I tell myself and having a whistle makes a lot of sense to me. This is one of those small items that I just want to have and I hope that I never need it. However, if I do need a whistle then I’ve got the loudest one I could find on the interwebs. This alert whistle from Storm is designed to be heard!
According to the Storm company, this whistle can produce 118 – 120 decibels! Apparently, this whistle can also be heard underwater up to 50 ft. That’s what Storm claims! Another nice thing is that this whistle is made right here in the USA.
I grabbed this whistle, in particular, because it was under $6 and it was orange. Seriously, a bright color is really a big deciding factor for what I want in outdoor/wilderness gear. That’s the reason I picked the Mora Companion knife I did. When you need a specific tool it really helps to be able to find it quickly. No matter if it’s your backpack, automobile glovebox, or tent floor you can really see the bright orange plastic. I will say that this thing is pretty big for being just a whistle.
I will say that this thing is pretty big for being just a whistle, so the bright orange color means that it’s super easy to spot. I’ve got mine attached to the cordage on my Brunton TruArc Compass so that the essential tools are together. Just in case I ever need them.
