2017 was a really good year overall. There were a lot of ups and downs along the way, but overall it was a really good year. Personally, I feel like there were a lot of things that I should have accomplished, but they just got pushed to the back burner. This happens all the time and it’s really just part of life.

Toward the end of 2017, I started playing with the idea of posting one image every day to my Instagram account. For social media, I’ve posted a few photos a month ranging from random things to food things. The food things always get some good feedback, but it’s not really something that I think I could fit into a bigger project. Years ago I had dreams of being an artist with photography. I wanted to focus on black & white photography with an emphasis on inanimate objects that are appealing because of how I present them.

That’s what the 2018 project is about. I want to get back to working in the photographic medium on a regular basis. I’m not saying that everything I produce will be “good” or even “interesting” but that’s not really the point. I want to push myself to make something every day and somewhere in that practice, I know some really good work will happen.

I’m not trying to foreshadow or anything like that, but I did find my medium format camera the other day, so there is a chance that could see the light of day this year. My wife and I love to travel around and explore cool places in Arkansas. There are so many times that I will take photos and never revisit them to fully develop a concept. I’m going to intentionally challenge that this year.

I hope to get to the point where I can take an analog photo and present it in a digital medium. I would love to post a Silver Gelica print on Instagram. I don’t know if that’s something that anyone else would care about, but I feel it within my own being and I’m going to follow this. I am going to create for the sake of creating. I am going to trust that somewhere in my spirit this is the right thing to do and it just needs to happen.

Now if I can just think of a name for this idea…
