There are a lot of things to do at Pinnacle Mountain Park in Little Rock. The most obvious one being to hike to the top of the mountain. I’ve enjoyed several weekends just hanging out and having a picnic in the field, but lately I’ve started kayaking here more and more.
There is a boat launch at the end of the main parking area that usually has good parking, if you are early enough. From this boat launch you’ve got two options: left or right. The right will take you to a long, narrow creek channel that I’ve seen many boaters take. The left will take you to a wider creek channel that goes for a quarter-mile, or so, and offers some good fishing areas.
While you won’t catch any monsters here there are some fun fish to be caught. I say you won’t catch monster fish, but for all I know there is a lunker lurking that only you can catch and I say go for it! This trip I focused more on kayaking than fishing, because I actually didn’t see any movement in the water.
This was a really enjoyable trip overall, but I did land in a bit of a tight spot trying to get back to the dock. Turns out that my sit-on-top kayak isn’t the easiest thing to paddle up stream!
Granted, part of kayaking can include a portage or two. There are some really awesome bodies of water that can only be accessed this way. A sit-on-top is really easy to get on and off of in a moving stream.
Also, the weather was hot and humid, so the cool, fast-moving water was a welcome temperature change. I had to put my feet down in the water to anchor the boat because I was worn out from paddling. All part of the adventure!
