I firmly believe that when you are “stuck on the bank” there are just so many spots that look like they would be amazing if you just had a boat and could get over there. There are so many places that I want to visit with the Adventure Galley because I remember thinking about how wonderful they must be. Truthfully, half of these dream spots produced fish, but all of them produced a fun adventure. This particular adventure is based on a kayak/canoe launch near Two Rivers Park in Little Rock, AR. This spot is a place that I just knew would produce fish.
The morning saw a handful of others fishing in this area. The four or five other boats I saw were all trolling around the banks of the river and only one of them managed to get a fish when I was near them. Still, the morning looked like a good morning to be out fishing. I mean just look at this place:
I hate to state the obvious, but not every adventure produces fish. This trip was a good reminder for me because despite the beauty of the surroundings I got skunked. Well, sort of. I caught a turtle. I’m not particularly proud of it other than the part where I was able to get the hooks out an didn’t kill the turtle. But I didn’t catch a single fish.
For all the times I looked at this area thinking it would produce fish I couldn’t get a bite. I tried to hit every inch of the water column, but I couldn’t get anything to take. I think I got a couple of nibbles, but nothing that I could use to get some fish on the line. My experience isn’t any different than anyone else’s when you are working as hard as you can, but you can’t get anything to work for you.
Turns out that getting skunked from the boat feels the same as getting skunked from the bank, but you don’t really have the excuse of “if I had a boat.” So you have to fall back to the love of fishing and the love of the adventure as your driving force for being out there. Until next time, take care!
