A brief work trip to Colorado that was a heck of a good time!
I love Colorado! There is just something about the weather and the landscape that is magical to me. I’ve only been able to get up there 3 times in my life and all for different reasons, but it’s the kind of place that I quickly connect to and am just refreshed to be there. Admittedly, I romanticize Colorado as a land of endless adventure.
This trip was a combination of work, combined with team building, and celebration. The trip was only for a couple of days, but we had a lot of great things packed in and still managed to pull off a couple of meetings. We even took in a hockey game, which I haven’t done in several years. Lots of good times were had by all.
The highlight, for me at least, was an atv ride with a local group: ATV Tours Colorado. I highly recommend these people if you are in the area and want to get out for a really cool adventure. Very knowledgable folks and even with a massive group like ours they made it a great time! The area we were in was beautiful as all get out. While considered the lower base of the Colorado Rockies, the trails were reminiscent of the Ozarks with a lot more pines. Without a doubt I wanted to have the LJ out there running those trails. It’s now on my list of things to do for sure!
I thoroughly enjoyed all the comments from my coworkers relating atv riding to jeepin’. Lots of people seemed to really connect with the idea of riding trails, taking in scenery, awesome photos, and just being in the outdoors. Al be it the adventure wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but all were glad for the experience. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been atv riding, but I really enjoyed the different perspective.
I came away with a deeper appreciation for the jeep and the way it handles. The approach to trails is also completely different and I found that my “jeepin skills” didn’t really translate to atv riding. Then again, maybe they just aren’t skills I really have! I feel like the difference perspective gives me a better insight to picking a line. In the handful of outings since Denver I find myself appreciating the ride more. I like that.
I had high hopes for the action-cam video and some of it turned out really good. I just can’t quite go all the way in to sacrifice the trip, the trail, and the ride for the sake of telling a good story in a video format. The attraction is certainly there, but I just can’t get over the hump of figuring out how to make it work.
So, for now at least, the photos, words, and memories will have to suffice.
Colorado was wonderful!
