Adventuring to New Mexico

The majority of this site is dedicated to adventuring all over Arkansas. There really are a ton of great places to get out and see here in the Natural State. Every once in a while Hope and I feel the need to pack the car up and head out. With a few extra vacation days on our hands, we decided to head out west.

I had this crazy idea to head out west to New Mexico. My parents have adventured out there for many years and I loved their stories. Hope & I decided to plan a trip and head out west. There are many things I love about my wife, but road trips are on top!

yeah, it’s a blurry photo of a bug smacked windshield…

We took I-40, aka typical route, from Arkansas to New Mexico because it’s a straight shot. The excitement of the trip carried all the way to Amarillo. For me, the Cadillac Exhibit was a massive let down. I think that it was something that I just missed the right time on. Not really sure, but moving on to the trip. Driving all those miles started to wear me out, right about the time that we hit the desert.

The change in the landscape really gave a burst of energy and renewed interest in the road trip. I think all road trips have that moment where you cross a threshold and you get a renewed sense of purpose. This was a pretty bug haul for us, but mostly because there wasn’t a beach at the end of the trip.

Parking outside of the cool little casita in Santa Fe, New Mexioc

There were two main components for this trip: getting to experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of New Mexico and getting to go fly fishing. The first part of these requirements were pretty easy to knock out, but the latter were going to be a challenge. New Mexico is full of great food and amazing places to eat. All you really have to do is talk to anyone about what they are having and enjoying and you will be directed to a place that will be your favorite.

Really enjoy the cool streets of Santa Fe, New Mexico

The fishing, which I’ve started to think is like all local fishing spots, got to be a little bit of a tougher subject. I want to give a shout to the Game & Fish of New Mexico because they are absolutely amazing! Even to the point of giving me some grief for coming to New Mexico to fish when Arkansas has worldwide, legendary trout fishing.

The thing about New Mexico that really struck me was how beautiful it is. I’m not just talking about the scenery, which is awesome, not just about the parks, which are also awesome, not just the markets, which are amazingly awesome, and even the 50 shades of brown, which did get old. The whole trip So different than Arkansas and so wonderful to see.

Yeah the views are really nice out here

I didn’t have enough time to explore everything I wanted to in New Mexico. We got so distracted by everything and Hope and I saw. We had an absolute had a blast. The markets were filled with locals who were more than happy to offer up all the local information and a wealth of knowledge. We were so grateful for all the wonderful nuggets of info given by the locals.

I really want to spend some more time out here

All in all, New Mexico is super cool. The food is second to none. The scenery is absolutely beautiful in it’s own special way. I would love to explore more of New Mexico, just for the endless beauty that this part of the county offers.
