I’m dialing down the difficulty for this one. The dash storage bin that comes stock isn’t that bad. I’m not saying that it’s great, but it’s not horrible. However, I wanted the compartment to be a little deeper and just more functional. There are several tray adapters on the market and I went with the Rugged Ridge model because I liked the layout and camera mount option.
The phone holder was a bonus, but I suspected that it wouldn’t work that well offroad. That theory was confirmed with the first adventure out to the Ouachita National Forrest, where my iPhone 11 kept bouncing out of the holder. Not really that much of an issue, but it was a bummer.
The install was easy and really straight forward:
Overall, I’m really happy with this mod. When cruising around on paved roads, it’s a great way to hold the phone. This also allows easy plug in to the stereo, because the head unit is so old that all it has is Auxiliary Input!
Off road however, this doesn’t really hold up that well. A rubber band is all you need to make it actually hold a phone, but that’s a little bit of a bummer. I will say that this thing holds a Garmin GPS unit really well! Time to head out on another adventure!
