Getting to know a Jeep

Like any car, especially a 20 year old car, there are all sorts of particulars to get to know. Driving a Jeep every day this week has been an absolute blast! Every day is bouncy, noisy, awesome and I’m loving it! However, there are a couple of things I’m now noticing that I just missed on initial inspection.

Profile of Jeep Wrangler

I can look past most of the chrome on this thing, but only because it can be taken off. I mean there is a lot of it to take off, but that’s pretty simple screw driver work. Getting all this off the Wrangler make it look a lot closer to stock.

Despite the dealer telling me he paid $1,500 to install a new AC the AC doesn’t work. The horn seems to be going out. The headlights are pretty dim and the glass is fading. The soft top isn’t really soft anymore and the list just goes on and on.

These are the sorts of things you have to deal with on an older Jeep. I’m really enjoying the Jeep despite the growing list of things to address. However the soft top is going to have to be addressed first. The rear window tore and won’t go back on the Jeep.

We’ve got a lot less chrome and overall I’m really happy with the progress. You can’t really tell from the last pic, but the license plate holder is busted. It was put back together with a screw, so it will need to be properly fixed at some point.

Another thing that I didn’t notice is that the hitch is welded into the receiver. Not sure why in the world someone would do that, but I’ll have to address it at some point. I plan to add a cargo storage rack there and I’m going to need to be able to get that receiver fixed!
