The Adventure Galley

I know, I know, I’m really stretching it with the whole post a week commitment. The struggle with writing content is that I’d rather be out there adventuring! So taking the time to sit down and write about something just isn’t a ton of fun. I would much rather be… You get the idea.

I thought about this a lot on the most recent adventure near Greers Ferry. My wife and I went kayaking together and spent the better part of 5 hours up and down a section of the Little Red River. I’m still sore as of writing this but absolutely thrilled to have the adventure to write about. Spring is in the air and that means that it’s finally time to get outside and really enjoy what Arkansas has to offer.

I’ve talked about kayaking in the past and this outing marked our 3rd adventure in the boats. This also marked the longest outing. New this trip was my kayak getting flooded from the wake of a ski boat out for use as a fishing boat. I was really mad at the time it happened, but after a few minutes I racked it up to being “part of the adventure.” I got to experience pulling a kayak up on the bank to pull a couple of scupper plugs to drain water. What an adventure indeed!

One of the highlights of the trip was actually catching a fish from my kayak. I can’t say the thrill was exactly like the first fish I ever caught, but the level of excitement makes it one of the top fishing memories. That said, it was just a small bream that I ended up getting. Before Hope could come over and take a picture the fish flopped around enough to get back in the river. However, she did see me catch the fish so it counts! I’m also not exaggerating that it was small fish, so this isn’t your typical fishing tail!

All in all, the kayaks are shaping up to be cooler than I ever imagined. Given that it’s my first watercraft to ever own I feel compelled to name it and I’m calling my kayak “The Adventure Galley.” More on that later, but yeah it’s a take off the pirate ship.
